|
Pacific Rim National Park Reserve - Established in
1970 to protect a nationally significant coastal environment. The Pacific Rim
Park offers three distinct areas for visitor interest - Long Beach, The Broken
Group Islands and The West Coast Trail. Each unit is accessed via a different
route and provides excellent examples of old-growth coastal temperate rainforest,

Long
Beach is a pleasant 10-minute drive north of Ucluelet. Here you will
find beaches and forest trails back-dropped by a 4,000 foot mountain range.
Spectacular! This 48 square mile section is ideally suited for most visitors
travelling by car. The most famous attraction of the Park are the 30 kilometers
or so of sandy beaches. In addition to surfing, beachcombing, tide pool and
sand dunes exploration, you can learn about the open ocean through films, exhibits
and displays at the Wickanninish Centre.

Wild
Pacific Trail - The Wild Pacific Trail located in Ucluelet, BC, is a
seven phase trail system skirting the rugged cliffs and shoreline of the westcoast
of Vancouver Island. Overlooking Barkley Sound and the Broken Group Islands
to the east and the open Pacific Ocean to the south and west, it offers spectacular
shoreline panoramas and seaward vistas through ancient cedar and spruce-framed
viewing platforms constructed on the best headlands along the route.

Cox Bay - Cox Bay is likely the most popular surf destination in
Canada. Its westerly exposure and shape catches and amplifies most directions
of swell to make it the most consistent beach break in this area. Cox Bay has
been the location of surf competitions for years including the Rip Curl Stew
and the O'Neill Cold Water Classic.

Botanical Gardens - Tofino Botanical Gardens are twelve acres of
gardens, forest, and shoreline that explore the relationship between culture
and nature. Tofino Botanical Gardens Foundation operates educational programs
and provides information about temperate rainforest conservation.

Radar Hill - Radar Hill is a lookout point with views of Pacific
Rim National Park and the Clayoquot Sound. It is located in the middle of the
Pacific Rim National Park near the communities of Tofino and Ucluelet, British

Aquarium - Visitors to the Ucluelet Aquarium can expect an up close
and personal encounter with a diversity of local marine life. The aquarium is
part of the local marine ecosystem. Water from Ucluelet harbour flows directly
through the tanks, allowing many animals to find their own way in and out of
the displays.

Amphitrite Point Lighthouse Ucluelet - At the south end of Ucluelet,
the Amphitrite Point Lighthouse is a beautiful place to take in a sunset or
just admire the relentless waves of the Pacific Ocean. Be prepared for breathtaking
views of Canada's spectacular west coast.

Travel & Transportation

|
By Car:
It is necessary to travel first from the mainland by ferry to either Victoria
in the south or to Nanaimo, which is closer to Ucluelet. There are also regularly
scheduled coach buses that travel to Ucluelet from main centres on Vancouver
Island.
Driving Distances and Travel Times to Ucluelet:
From Tofino: 26 km and 30 minutes driving
From Port Alberni: 100 km and 1 hours 10 minutes driving
From Nanaimo: 180 km and 2 hours 15 minutes driving
From Victoria: 288 km and 4.5 hours driving
From Vancouver: 196 km, 3.5 hours driving and 1.5 hours ferry
From Seattle:422 km, 6 hours driving and 2 hours ferry
If you are coming by private boat, Ucluelet has a small
craft harbour and other marine facilities. It also has a recognized Canada Customs
Clearance Centre.
By Plane:
Reserving a flight to Tofino is the fastest way to travel to the west coast
of Vancouver Island. Daily flights available from Vancouver throughout the high
season. Regular scheduled flights to Tofino are also offered from Victoria and
Seattle.
By Bus:
Tofino Bus offers affordable bus service to Tofino from Vancouver and Victoria
via BC Ferries. Tofino Bus also offers local service along the Pacific Rim between
Tofino and Ucluelet.
By Ferry:
Driving time to Ucluelet from Vancouver is appoximately 7 hours (including your
trip on BC Ferries). Travel time by car can vary widely depending on your wait
at BC Ferries. We strongly recommend that you make a reservation with BC Ferries
if you are travelling to Vancouver Island during the summer months and/or during
holiday weekends. A one-way reservation costs about $15 (in addition to regular
ferry fees) which guarantees your space on the Ferry.

Express - Locally owned Vancouver Island bus company that offers daily
scheduled passenger service as well as charter bus services. Based in beautiful
Tofino, B.C., Tofino Bus Island Express provides daily transportation to Tofino,
Ucluelet and Port Alberni from Parksville, Nanaimo, Vancouver and Victoria.

Ferries - Depending on your location, there is one of three ferry routes
to take. From Horseshoe Bay, just north of Vancouver, BC Ferries takes you to
Departure Bay in Nanaimo. From Tsawassen, south of Vancouver, the choice is
between Duke Point near Nanaimo and Swartz Bay near Victoria.
